A stunning pair of 200 year old imperial Chinese jugs that would have been used in Buddhist ceremonies have emerged for sale for £250,000.

The two porcelain vessels, called penba hu, would have been used in Tibetan religious rituals.

Both jugs bear marks confirming that they originate from the time of the Qing dynasty from 1796 to 1820.

They would have been used during purification ceremonies where the lama would invite a Buddhist deity into the jug before washing monks with the contents.

Buddhists believed that the water molecules within the penba hu became a part of the deity.
