Is this the first celebrity signed photo..

A rare 155 year-old autographed image of Charles Dickens from the early days of photography has sold for £7,400 ($9,091).

The Great Expectations writer signed the 4.25ins by 6.5ins portrait picture of himself during his final American tour in 1868.

The photo shows a smartly-dressed Dickens in a full-length pose in front of a desk and chair.

His American visits were lucrative as he earned £19,000 in royalties - £1.2million in today's money - for doing over 70 readings of his works.

The photo sparked a bidding war when it went under the hammer at RR Auction, of Boston, US.
