Pictured: Kitchiner wrote in the 1817 first edition of how to prepare 'potatoes fried in slices or shavings'. He then instructs them to 'dry them well in a clean cloth, and fry them in lard or dripping' before adding salt.<br />
The end result would have been ready salted crisps.<br />
