A scathing letter by James Dean in which he calls his upcoming play a 'piece of s**t' has been unearthed after 70 years.

The heartthrob vents his frustrations to his girlfriend Barbara Glenn during a break in rehearsals for The Immortalist in January 1954.

Despite Dean's misgivings, the show premiered at the Royale Theatre in New York a month later and ran for 96 performances.
