A pensioner has gone into business selling medieval perfumes he recreates from ancient formulas he has found in old 'recipe' books.

Barry Gibson uses the archive of rare perfume books he bought at auction to recreate classic scents that are centuries old.

He tries to stay as true to the original formulations as possible, but substitutes any animal-derived ingredients like musk for plant-sourced alternatives.

While most perfumes by the likes of Chanel and Dior are manufactured in factories full of stainless steel and bottled within 24 hours, Barry
makes them all by hand using traditional techniques.
