Flight Lieutenant Des Curtis was a brilliant Mosquito navigator who was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross and immortalised on the front cover of boy's own adventure magazine 'Victor'.
After the war he developed an unlikely friendship with the commander of a German U-boat that was destroyed by Des' aircraft.
He is believed to be the last surviving member of 618 Squadron, which was closely linked to the legendary 617 'Dambusters' Squadron. « less
