A retired doctor has taken a 'last stand' to protect a GP surgery from closure by handcuffing himself to a pillar outside it.

Doctor Edwin Owen took the radical action to express his anger at the imminent closure of the practice due to a lack of funding.

The surgery, in the retirement town of Bournemouth, Dorset, has 10,300 registered patients.
But in a case that typifies Britain's crisis in GP care, it has announced it is closing because the partners can't afford to keep it going.
