The Victoria Cross won by one of Britain's 'bravest soldiers' who was mortally wounded while waist deep in a flooded trench has sold for £372,000.

Lieutenant Colonel Bertram Best-Dunkley had survived the Somme and the first ever mustard gas attack before he was fatally wounded in a heroic action in the Battle of Passchendaele.
He watched as dozens of men and officers went over the top only to be cut down by enemy machine gun fire from positions believed to have been in British hands.
