A painting by Sir William Nicholson which was owned by war poet Siegfried Sassoon has sold for a British record £550,000.
The 16ins by 11ins oil on canvas artwork produced in 1929 shows a vase of colourful flowers on top of a pile of books.
Sassoon, a long-time friend of Nicholson, acquired it new for £60 and it had remained in his family for almost a century.
