Soaking Bank holiday weather for cheese race

Dozens of competitors today raced up the famous 'Hovis Hill' lugging heavy blocks of local cheese.

They were cheered on as they scrambled up Gold Hill, a steep cobbled street in Shaftesbury, Dorset, immortalised in Ridley Scott's 1973 bread advert.

Each cheese block is 14ins in diameter, weighs 55lbs and requires 500 pints of milk to make.

The course is 236ft (72m) long and the record time is 15 seconds.
The race, which drew a large crowd, is the brainchild of local cheesemonger Charlie Turnbull. It was the centrepiece of this year's Shaftesbury Food and Drink Festival.
