A medieval tower house built to protect people from pillaging raiders is on the market for £995,000.
Pele Tower House is a Grade II* Listed property in Northumberland believed to date back more than 600 years that played an important role as part of the border defences.
Pele towers were important to protect from the Border Reivers - raiders who pillaged along the English-Scottish borders from the 14th to the 17th century. At the time cattle rustling, murder, arson and pillaging were common and the towers provided somewhere safe for villagers to wait out attacks by marauders.
Now the property is a quirky three-bedroom house with an attached two-bedroom cottage and 2.5 acres of gardens which lead down to the River Aln.
