An environmentalist has found a 70 year old washing up bottle during a beach clean - which could be Britain's oldest piece of plastic pollution.

Oly Rush found the Doby bottle, which is thought to date from the mid-1950s, washed up among seaweed at Chapman's Pool near Swanage, Dorset.

The 1.5 pints moulded container, made by Thawpit Ltd of Manchester, still has a legible 'By Royal Appointment' message on it.

Oly, 36, a plasterer from Poole, said that immediately upon picking up the bottle he told himself 'she's an old girl'.
