The heroism of a plucky World War One carrier pigeon that delivered a vital message despite being mortally wounded by a German sniper has come to light 100 years since its death.

Recently unearthed papers found in a house clearance document the full story of the brave bird who earned the name 'VC Pigeon' after he gallant but fatal feat.
