Pictured: His archive of medals, photographs and the trench mirror have been unearthed after being consigned for sale by a private collector and being auctioned by Lockdales' Auctions of Ipswich, Suffolk. Medals from left -DCM, Military Medal, the 1914-1915 Star, British War Medal and Victory Medal.<br />

A tragic Tommy's pocket trench mirror that still has the bullet hole from where a German sniper killed him has been discovered in his poignant archive 104 years later.<br />

Sergeant Arthur Wells - a survivor of the Somme who was twice decorated for bravery - was picked off by the enemy sniper as he spoke to a senior officer while repairing a trench on the Western Front.<br />
<br />
The fatal bullet penetrated the standard-issue mirror that would have been in his breast pocket at the time.
