The story of how an ornate carriage caused a stir at the Queen's Coronation is revealed in a new exhibition to mark the Platinum Jubilee.

The 6th Marquess of Bath insisted on arriving at Westminster Abbey in his State Chariot despite official resistance.

The Duke of Norfolk, who as Earl Marshal organised the Coronation, had written to him urging him not to travel by carriage due to concerns about parking.

But his appeal fell on deaf ears and the Marquess borrowed a driver and two dray horses from a local brewery to get him there.

The yellow and black 1820s chariot, which was state of the art for its time, wowed the public and attracted a lot of column inches.
