A huge solid gold horse racing trophy which has been kept in a private collection for the last 40 years has emerged for sale for £120,000.
The 1.5ft high Ascot Gold Cup was presented to St George Henry Lowther, 4th Earl of Lonsdale, after his horse, Petrarch, won the prestigious race in 1877.
