A fascinating letter by gangster Al Capone revealing how learnt to play the mandolin while in Alcatraz has sold for a whopping £38,000.
The Chicago crime lord told son Sonny he has been obsessively learning the small stringed instrument that was seemingly at odds with his violent image.
He said he played 500 songs on the larger version of a mandolin and had even written his own material that was dedicated to his wife Mae.
