A rare 120 year old Benz car engine which was found in a scrap yard has emerged for sale for the same price as a modern Mercedes.
The owner discovered it at the bottom of a pile of scrap metal at a Devon site he was clearing ahead of its redevelopment 50 years ago.
He initially thought it was an agricultural engine as it was such an unusual piece of engineering.
Upon closer inspection, he spotted the enamelled sign which read 'Motor Benz 3241', dating it to circa 1900.
The engine, which he kept in his barn, is going under the hammer at auctioneers Charterhouse, of Sherborne, Dorset.
