A new state-of-the-art prescription dispensing robot designed to eliminate patient medication errors has been unveiled at a British hospital.

The Swisslog robot at the pharmacy department in Poole Hospital, Dorset, will improve the efficiency, accuracy and speed in which prescriptions are distributed to patients.

The automated system improves patient safety by decreasing errors and gives staff more time to undertake clinical duties. It also reduces wastage by monitoring expired stock.

Drugs are loaded into the robot and it sorts them into the best place, based on the size and shape of the boxes, as well as positioning the most popular stock in the handiest spots. It can load up to 300 items an hour, far more than a human could.
