Overzealous council workers have been accused of massacring a hedgerow in a move that saw health and safety trump their eco policies.

Residents in a neighbourhood in Colehill, near Wimborne, Dorset, were shocked when they came home to find workers had completely destroyed a pretty and green boundary along the pavement.

Homeowners had spent 10 years happily maintaining the hedgerow themselves to make the suburban road more attractive and because it was important for wildlife.
