An original Abbey Road sign that was gifted to an accountant for doing a builder's books has sold for almost £14,000.

The enamel road sign is believed to have been on display at the time of The Beatles' famous photoshoot for their Abbey Road album in 1969.

It was given to the vendor in the early 1970s in payment for helping the unnamed builder with his finances.
The accountant, a fan of the Beatles, kept hold of the sign for five decades before selling it with Wessex Auction Rooms of Chippenham, Wilts.
