Charlie Chaplin's original tramp suit has emerged for sale for £120,000.

The English silent film comic icon wore the outfit while playing the part of The Little Tramp in The Mumming Birds in 1910.

He was supposed to be the gentleman cad and Billie Ritchie the tramp in the touring Alfred Karno Company production.

But they switched roles so Scots actor Ritchie lent Chaplin his suit, including the black shoes which were too big for him. Chaplin put the shoes on opposite feet and his famous character was born.
After the US theatre run ended, he returned the suit to Ritchie. A century later, it is going under the hammer at NCM Auctions, of Doncaster, South Yorks.
