A poignant 107 year-old notebook containing messages and sketches by wounded World War One soldiers has been discovered.

It was the idea of Freda Meryon Chance who was a nurse at St Mary's Red Cross Hospital in Reigate, Surrey, in 1915 and 1916.

She thought it would help convalescing soldiers to share their recollections of life in the trenches on the Western Front. Over 30 troops contributed to the book, with some sharing poems and drawings.
