A church organist is leading a group of angry parishioners in a campaign to save a 110-year-old pipe organ, after church official's announced plans to replace it with 'evangelical space' and 'happy clappy' music. 

The historic instrument that has serenaded the congregation at St Paul's Church in St Albans, Herts, since 1910 is in danger of demolition due to a 'growing evangelical presence'.

Within the last 20 years the face of the Edwardian church has changed, with pews being replaced with soft seating and the original layout being switched around. 

The Diocese of St Albans have now made an application to dispose of the organ and replace it with an electronic one, much to the dismay of traditional worshippers. 

One of the organists at St Paul's, Jonathan Humbert, has launched a campaign to save the beloved instrument - claiming that such 'happy clappy' modernisations are 'tearing the heart out of the Church of England'.
