Admiral Lord Nelson's fighting sword has emerged for sale for £50,000.

The British naval hero is believed to have used the historic weapon in battle against the French during the Napoleonic Wars.

He gave the blade to his relative William Maurice Suckling before his death at Trafalgar in 1805.

Horatio, third Earl Nelson, wrote an account of the sword's history which included the remarkable claim it once belonged to Bonnie Prince Charlie.
