Tipu Sultan's fabled bedchamber sword has sold for a world record £14million.
It was recovered from the private quarters of the feared ruler of Mysore, south India, who was slain in battle by the British in 1799.
The 18th century steel-bladed weapon was given by the Army to Major General David Baird for his 'courage' during the assault.
The 41ins gold calligraphy sword, made by Mughal swordsmiths, sparked a bidding war 224 years on at auctioneers Bonhams, of London, fetching seven times its £2million estimate.
