Pictured: These stunning photos show a huge bloom of a rare plankton that has appeared off the south west coast to send mackerel into a feeding frenzy.
The abundance of salps - tiny marine invertabrites that use 'jet propulsion' to pump water through their body - extend for about 100 miles from Plymouth, Devon, to Portheras Cove in north Cornwall.
The carpet of salps can be seen just below the surface of the sea.
They have also been spotted by puzzled fishermen who have found their lobster and crab pots covered in them when they bring them up.
