'Rest Assured' - Brown & Bigelow Calendar illustration 1952

A collection of rare art works highlighting the racy yet innocent world of the all-American pin-up has emerged for sale with a whopping £300,000 price tag.

The ten saucy images come from the hand of Gil Elvgren, heralded as one of the masters of titillation when pin-ups were popular in the 1950s.

The paintings, so named because they were intended to be pinned up onto walls, provided titillation for an era of testosterone-fuelled men at a time when attitudes to women were much more conservative.

A mixture of oil on canvas and pencil sketches, the collection for sale were works Elvgren produced in the late 1940s and early 1950s for the famous Brown and Bigelow calendar.
The most desirable in this set are tipped to fetch as much as £50,000 each when they go under the hammer at Heritage Auctions in Dallas, Texas, on behalf of a private collector on May 14.
