A unique clock customised by Bond author Ian Fleming and gifted to playwright Noel Coward has emerged for sale.

The unusual timepiece was a 'joke' gift from the writer and his then wife Ann to thank Coward, his partner and his assistant for their part in helping keep their affair secret when she was married to newspaper magnate Viscount Rothermere.

Fleming customised the 1950s oak mantle clock to include the regimental badge of the Intelligence Corps and wrote on the back "From London with love", a cheeky reference to one of his James Bond novels.

The clock was given to the Coward household sometime in the 1950s and was later acquired by a collector.

It is now up for sale with London-based Shapero Rare Books for £16,250.
