A tattered bible which reputedly belonged to legendary Scottish poet Robert Burns has sold for over £5,000.
He is said to have read the scripture for comfort in his final weeks as his health worsened in July 1796.
Burns had it with him when he visited the Brow Well, which was renowned for its healing qualities, drinking and bathing in its water to try and find a cure.
But days after returning from the sacred spot the 37 year old died surrounded by his family at his home in Dumfries.
The pocket bible, which was exhibited at the Burns Exhibition in Glasgow marking a centenary since his passing in 1896, went under the hammer with auctioneers Dominic Winter, of Cirencester, Gloucs.
