Schoolchildren took part in an eight hour mock trial of a millionaire Tory MP over slavery 'charges' relating to his ancestors, it has been revealed.

Richard Drax was put in the fictional dock charged with 'benefitting from the proceeds of slavery' due to his relatives' involvement in the slave trade.

Forty pupils aged between 12 and 18 were involved in the case, taking on the roles of prosecution and defence lawyers while others were split into three juries.

The event was organised by leading human rights lawyer Clive Stafford Smith who acted as the judge.

It was the first 'Generation on Trial' event which Mr Stafford Smith's anti-injustice charity 3DCentre is staging.
