A descendant of Sir Isaac Newton who has bought a sapling from the apple tree said to have inspired the theory of gravity will grow it at his cider farm.
Legend has it that Giles Wood's great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great uncle was sat under the tree when he was hit on the head by a falling apple, inspiring his law of gravity.
Over 350 years later Mr Wood has paid an undisclosed sum for the 3ft sapling that has been propagated from the apple tree at Newton's childhood home in Lincolnshire.
He described it as like securing a 'family heirloom' and will grow it at his farm in Beaminster, Dorset.
