A lump of German shell that killed a heroic Royal Navy Captain in the First World War has emerged for sale as a grisly relic.
The 4ins piece of heavy steel hit Lieutenant Commander Arthur 'Jerry' Onslow at the infamous Battle of Jutland in 1916.
The bridge of Onslaught took a direct hit, mortally wounding Lt Cmdr Onslow.
Midshipman Reginald Arnot recovered the 18oz shell fragment from the back of his commander. It is now being sold by auctioneers Woolley and Wallis.
