A poignant memorial plaque commemorating tragic explorer Captain Robert Scott which belonged to his grieving widow has been unearthed.

Scott led a five man party who attempted to be the first to reach the South Pole during the doomed Terra Nova expedition in 1912.

They were pipped to their goal by the Norwegian party, and all of them died on the arduous return journey.
Scott's widow, Lady Kathleen Scott, later Kennet, gave the plaque to her second husband's head gamekeeper.
