German Messerschmitt BF 109 fighter aircraft flying in formation.
Fascinating previously unseen photos of the Battle of Britain have come to light in a new book released ahead of its 80th anniversary.
They include dramatic images of bombing raids on the south coast, German formations coming under fire and shot-down aircraft.
The images are published in To Defeat The Few, which focuses on the battle from a lesser told German perspective.
One photo shows a formation of Dornier Dos approaching the Dorset coast in the momentous daytime raid on September 15, 1940 - which has become known as 'Battle of Britain Day'.
There are several photos of downed aircraft including a German Messerschmitt 109 which crashed into a field near Ulcombe, Kent. Another shows a Spitfire which somehow made it back to base at RAF Westhampnett, west Sussex, despite being severely damaged.
