Derek Gawn's open-top bus service

An open-top bus service along Britain's Jurassic Coast has been forced off the road after a sabotage and smear campaign by angry elderly residents.

The noise of the engines of the 1950s' heritage vehicles is thought to have upset the occupants of seaside retirement flats whose balconies overlook a bus park they stopped at.

Owner Derek Gawn and his team of drivers say that have had to put up with verbal abuse from irate locals, their wheel nuts deliberately loosened and photographs taken of them in their own cars.

The last straw came when someone set up a fake Facebook account pretending to be him to harm his business.

Now Mr Gawn has withdrawn the Mendip Mule bus which ran from the town of Beer in Devon to Charmouth in Dorset.
