Struggling first-time buyers in one of the worst places in Britain for affordable housing have slammed developers for trying to 'weasel' their way out of a deal to build low-cost homes.

Locals in the seaside town of Swanage, Dorset, have been priced out of the housing market in recent years due to the amount of second home owners buying up property.

They were offered a glimmer of hope when plans for a new housing estate were revealed. Planning permission was granted on condition that 11 of the 30 homes were affordable housing.

Now Bracken Developments have applied to remove the condition, stating that an increase in the cost of building materials means they won't make enough profit from the development.
