8 million stitches, 1 Holy Exhibition
Pictured: Salisbury Cathedral's Verger, Kate Stubbings with an embroidery entitled, "In the beginning…"
Twelve large embroidered panels fashioned from eight million stitches which tell the story of 'the Creation' have gone on display at Salisbury Cathedral.
The panels, which measure up to 8ft by 11ft, are made from silk, hand-dyed materials, gold leaf and metallic leathers.
They have been created by Devon-based textile artist Jacqui Parkinson who has dedicated three years to the solo project.
The panels are inspired by the poetic verses of Genesis, the first book in the Bible, and include depictions of the Garden of Eden.
