The lucky gull being released by RSPCA inspector Jo Story.

A seagull that miraculously survived being shot with an arrow has today been released back into the wild after being saved by the RSPCA.

The male gull was left skewered by the 28ins long arrow fired from a high-powered crossbow, possibly by an angry homeowner fed-up with the nuisance birds.

The metal arrow went right through the gull's body and somehow missed its vital organs.

And when vets X-rayed it they realised the bird had been doubly lucky as they found a pellet in its body from where it had been previously shot with an air rifle.
