The loss of the plans 100 years ago would have been a major security scare.
Discovered in a loft in an old cardboard box - Top secret plans to Britain’s Grand Fleet on the eve of the Battle of Jutland.
An amazing discovery has steamed into Bellman’s auction house in Billingshurst, West Sussex - incredibly detailed plans of Britain’s Capital ships, that ruled the waves before the Great War and fought the German fleet at the Battle of Jutland, the 100th anniversary of which is on the 31st May this year.
The detailed plans are annotated by hand and include the torpedo room of the Iron Duke, Jellicoe's flagship at Jutland, the Fire control system of Hercules and Colossus, two more capital ships from the battle and most poignantly of all the plans to HMS Indefatigable, which was sunk by the German's with the loss of over a 1000 lives during the battle.
The top secret plans would have been jealously guarded state secrets at the time and mystery surrounds how they finally ended up in the loft of small house in Billingshurst, West Sussex.
Bellmans Auctions - 16th March.
