Lord Byron.

A lock of the great English Romantic poet Lord Byron's hair has sold for £18,000.

The sample of the early 19th century wordsmith's light brunette hair has been kept in a gold and enamel locket for almost 200 years.

George Byron died of fever during the Greek War of Independence fighting against the Ottomans aged 36 in 1824.

His lock of hair was taken by his Italian companion Count Pietro Gamba who was with Byron on his final days.
