The 'lost' Ford Escort car that Prince Charles gave to Princess Diana as an engagement present sold today for almost £60,000.

The Ford Escort Mark III Ghia was Diana's daily runaround from May 1981 - two months before the Royal wedding - until August 1982.

Diana regularly drove the 1980 silver motor to visit Charles during their engagement, especially at games of polo.

Soon after taking ownership of the Escort, her elder sister, Lady Sarah Spencer, gave her a silver frog car mascot that Diana attached to the bonnet.
