A plush Lamborghini sports car first owned by rock icon Rod Stewart is for sale - but buyers will have to part with the best part of a million pounds to get their hands on it.

The magnificent motor is one of only seven right-hand drive Lamborghini Miura SVs, largely credited as the world's first supercar.

Rock star Stewart bought it new in 1972 just as his solo career was taking off on the back of smash single Maggie May and number one album Every Picture Tells a Story.

He sold it in 1985 as his career slumped - and since then the car has had almost £200,000 spent on it.

The Miura SV was the fastest production car ever on its launch in 1972 with a top speed of 186mph from its 390hp 4-litre engine.

It cost around £8,000 new - about £126,000 in today's money.
