A rare medal given to China's first president who was one of the 'Big Four Allies' has emerged for sale in Britain for a staggering £1million.
Generalissimo Chiang Kai-Shek was awarded the Order of Blue Sky and White Sun for 'outstanding contributions to national security' in 1930.
He became a high profile figure in the Western world as an ally against Japan during World War Two, meeting with Winston Churchill, Franklin D Roosevelt and Joseph Stalin at the 1943 Cairo Conference. His wife Soong Mei-ling, who travelled with him, became known as Madame Chiang.
Chiang fled China after losing a civil war with the Communists in 1949, who established the People's Republic of China. He established a government in exile in Taiwan, remaining there until his death in 1975.
Almost half a century later, his medal, which has 'The Special Chosen One' embossed on it in local characters, is going under the hammer at London-based auctioneers Spink & Son. They believe it could set a world record price for a military order or medal sold at public auction.
