A Grade II listed house in the middle of the landscape made world famous by the painter John Constable has gone on sale for £1.75m.
The property, a Suffolk Hall House built in the early 1500s, is in an area of outstanding natural beauty, part of which was immortalised in Constable’s 1821 painting, The Hay Wain.
Constable was born in the area and used scenes from the Dedham Vale and the area around Flatford Mill in a series of artworks, including one of the church of nearby Stoke-by-Nayland.
Nether Hall, in the tiny village of Thorington Street, was around during Constable’s time and is believed to be one of the last Suffolk Hall Houses to be constructed during the 16th century.
