Buyers are being offered a rare opportunity to own an historic 19th century lighthouse perched on a rocky outcrop - but they will have to find almost £500,000 to get their hands on it.

For more than 100 years the Killantringan lighthouse helped ships navigate the North Channel, a treacherous stretch of water between Scotland and Northern Ireland, until it was decommissioned in 2007.

Rather than being left to fallen into disrepair, two humble keeper's cottages adjoining the lighthouse were given a makeover and transformed into plush residences.
The unique cliff-top properties, nestled on a headline near Portpatrick in Dumfries and Galloway, have now gone on the market with Knight Frank for the first time in eight years with a combined asking price of £485,000.
