A close-knit community..

An army of knitters have created a 2,000ft long scarf that stretches the length of four football pitches.

Intrepid knitters Beverly Thornton, Jean Gosney and Beverly Chisnell set out last October to create a scarf long enough to stretch from the community kitchen they volunteer at to the town hall in Bridport, Dorset.

The town got behind them and they had over 50 knitters helping, including residents at a local nursing home and knitters from as far away as Australia getting involved.

The knitters would meet once a week to stitch squares that were then sewn together.

Each square was sponsored and the scarf has raised over £2,500 to fund the community kitchen's work supporting vulnerable people.
