Starlight Avatar in cultivation box in the dark.
Enterprising scientists have grown the world's first glow-in-the-dark plant using luminous cells from miniscule marine bacteria.
By day the ground-breaking creation looks like a normal houseplant but at night it lights up with a soft green glow - just like the plants in the 2009 sci-fi blockbuster Avatar.
The incredible innovation is aimed at enhancing homes and gardens but the boffins behind it say with more development it could be used in place of man-made lighting.
The plant, named Starlight Avatar in a nod to the Oscar-winning film, is the result of more than 20 years of multi-million pound research into bioluminescence.
