Back to the Future

A heritage railway is taking part in an innovative project to test if WiFi can work on some of Britain's oldest and most rural rail networks.

Swanage Railway will be the first in the country to have a WiFi-connected steam train thanks to a £163,000 government grant.

The satellite-powered reliable connection will enable passengers to pay more easily for car parking and train tickets on the rural railway line in Dorset.

But it will also mean they can scroll social media or stream sports and movies on the train.

The heritage line have defended the introduction of innovative technology on what is seen as a historic experience, saying customers have expectations to be able to use the latest tech.
