Swan herder has been kept so busy during lockdown, he has been working flat out to hand feed Abbotsbury Swannery's 800 swans and check on their nests.

If the recent hot weather wasn't enough to convince you that summer had arrived then the first cygnets to hatch at a famous swannery will.

According to an ancient proverb, the site of the first baby swan of the year at historic Abbotsbury Swannery in Dorset heralds the start of summer.

Three of the 101 nests at the venue started hatching yesterday (Mon).
Under normal circumstances the tiny cygnets are greeted by a throng of excited visitors who flock to the swannery at the time of year.
